Since 1992 Russian supported separatist groups bleed dry georgian population in the two regions. More the 250 thousand georgian refugees plus 100 thousand other ethnicities driven out from their homes. In 17 years Russia has not only completely ignored but also breached all agreements by supplying heavy armement to separatists, distributing russian passports on foreign soil which themselves recognized hypocritically as Georgian (cf. Peace agreements of Dagomis and Sochi instead of writing idiotic comments abiut NATO who came into region much later). Every year Georgian civilians and peacekeepers were killed and tortured systematically. As for SO war, both of you Putins ass lickers, read the report before the full scale hostilities started the first dead soldier was georgian. i wonder where you find so many idiots of your kind, maybe only in Russian Federation and some freak russophile pseudo intellects who read Russia Today. Get lost you nazis!

Keep up the good work, Venik. These drones and their knee-jerk attacks on anyone who doesn’t buy into their phony holiness in all things are beyond pathetic. Seriously now, do these twits expect to be taken seriously when they justify the murder of Russian peacekeepers and the mass murder of Ossetian civilians in the middle of the night by MLRS and artillery barrages?

Some territorial integrity fig leaf is only an excuse in their sad little minds. Grenada got invaded because there was supposedly some hint of a threat to US nationals. Georgia was not invaded but its war crime in South Ossetia was stopped through military action. NATO is all about such humanitarian interventions yet they bleat about “illegality” and “territorial integrity” when one of their lackeys gets smacked down.

Humanitarian law and interventions are supposed to apply to all humans and not a select few approved by NATO.

I think Saakashvili – in utter desperation to find some vindication for his failed policies – was the only person in the world to read the IIFFMCG report in its full one-thousand-page glory. At least my post properly cites its sources, unlike the IIFFMCG report.

The bottom line is: nobody cares about these trivial details anymore. Saakashvili likes to repeat that Georgia is a small but proud country. He should know: he made it a whole lot smaller. Maybe in a couple hundred years something will change and Georgia will regain control of Abkhazia. Until then, Georgians will have to stick to their “small and proud” motto.

Venik, Your commentary is a complete distortion of the Tagliavini report about Russia-Georgia august 2008 war. I will even go further and add that you are a typical manipulative one-sided liar, unfortunately so widespread in today’s Russia. Venik – is a Russian boy Venyamin isn’t it ?
You took from the report only what you felt was arranging your case. Let me make things clear for you and for every mind you try to manipulate here:
The word Russian “fault” that you put under quotes is clearly outlined in the report as a major FAULT. And it is not only what you called simple “use of disproportional force” it is chapters of description on how Russia during years maintaned a destabilizing and provocative factor in the region, forcing the conflict by unilateral support of separatism in Georgia, illegal passportization of Georgian soil, that so called genocide that Russia had been accusing Georgia of committing never happened, instead there was an ethnical cleansing committed against Georgians in both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russia is in breach of international law and the cease-fire agreements. Wake up Venik, it’s occupation of neighboring country. Stop picking and matching what you like, read the full report.

Thanks for this commentary. Now I guess I’ll lso have to download the whole report and read it myself, just to understand more about how it was assembled.

Of course the report is largely redundant. It was always completely clear to anyone with eyes, ears and a brain that Georgia began the war.
